me, me, me.

I like to draw. It's how I connect with whatever I'm studying, organizing, or imagining. With all the software and electronic tools at my disposal, nothing makes an idea tangible as quickly or directly as pen to paper.

I was born and raised in Hawaii in a Japanese/Hawaiian/German/French household which might explain the melting pot approach I bring to whatever is in front of me. I was lucky enough to be exposed to people and influences from every corner of the world and saw how happy and potent the combination of diverse ideas can be.

I studied design at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond where I added a southern drawl to my pidgin English before returning to the islands to work, eventually as an associate creative director for the largest agency in the state [Starr Seigle McCombs / Honolulu], doing print and television advertising.

I moved to Los Angeles looking for new challenges and worked in commercial and film production doing grunt work, storyboarding for directors and agencies, then eventually art direction for movies [the only film anyone has heard of: Exorcist III, which was a lot of twisted fun to work on]

I needed a real job when I got married so went to work in a marketing & design firm [Boyd Communications / LA], eventually becoming the associate creative director.

I needed a flexible job when my kids were born, so went freelance and have been at it ever since.

I like people and I listen. Along with my aforementioned drawing-Jones, I use all
the normal design software [PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint, Keynote, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, etc.]
I can read and write and use spell-check.
And I knew enough about web design to put this site up myself.

Every day, I try to add to what I already know, so by the time you read this, I will be that much smarter.

You really should call me.
